Health benefits of jaggery (गुड)
Jaggery is made up of sugarcane even white sugar. Jaggery is
not refined sugar. It is rich in many important minerals instead white sugar.
Jaggery is high in zinc & selenium specially. These minerals prevents free
radicals into our body, which is very good. Zinc helps to reduce stress &
boost Libido. jaggery helps to boost the immune system.
It also enhance the digestion because
it boost the digestive enzymes in digestive tract. You have been seen many
times at your home and restaurants people eat jaggery after meals. It also
helps to detox lever & blood, many toxins generate into body specially who drinks
alcohol or consume other drugs. During menstruation in women it helps to
relieve pain from cramp.basically it has also anti-inflammatory properties, which means helps to reduce the pain in body
it is rich in iron contents so again helps to prevents anemia.
Whilst white sugar is totally empty calories which means 100%
sucrose nothing else (not that good at all). Basically jaggery is good instead
white sugar or brown sugar. There is no major difference among white sugar
& brown sugar. It could be about 0.002% not more than that.

Hence it doesn’t mean you started to eat excess quantity of
jaggery. The most noteworthy thing is jaggery & white sugar are both high
in glycemic index (GI). Although white sugar is more high in GI then Jaggery.
So literally not recommended for diabetics at all. Because both are high in
glycemic index which is responsible for spike your insulin hormone.
Sugar = 100% sucrose high in GI (refined sugar)
Jaggery = 70% sucrose, fructose & glucose rest of 30%
Eventually jaggery is good rather than white sugar. So you
can eat jaggery in moderation on daily basis. You can switch to jaggery instead
refined sugar. Once again both are not recommended for diabetics at all. It has
really very tiny benefits so sugar always should be in limitations whether white
or brown or jaggery.
